How to Compare Drawings and Mark Up Changes Using Cloud Lines and Revision Triangles on CAD Drawing?

  1. Launch the first revision CAD drawing in CAD Reader. If you haven’t installed it yet, you can download CAD Reader here: https://dwg.fastcadreader.com/?from=cli_ads2.
  2. From the drop-down menu in either the Open toolbar or VIP toolbar, select "Export PDF."
  3. Configure the export settings, including paper size, orientation, color, line weight, and any comments.
  4. Click "Export," rename the file, and save it.
  5. Repeat this process for the second revision CAD drawing, ensuring you save it with a different file name.
  6. After converting both CAD drawings to PDFs, open them in PlanForm for comparison. If you haven’t installed PlanForm yet, you can download it here: https://pdf.fastcadreader.com/.
  7. In PlanForm, click the "Compare" button in the menu bar.
  8. If multiple PDF files are open, select the two drawings you want to compare.
  9. Assign colors to the drawings (e.g., green for the first drawing and red for the second).
  10. For PDFs with multiple pages, select the page you wish to compare by entering the page number.
  11. If the drawings are misaligned due to scaling, offset, or other adjustments, set the base points on both drawings.
  12. After setting the base points, right-click to confirm.
  13. Choose the location to save the comparison results—by default, they are saved on the desktop.
  14. Click "Compare." A new PDF showing the comparison results will be automatically generated.
  • Green highlights the content unique to the first drawing.
  • Red highlights the content unique to the second drawing.
  • Black represents identical content between the two drawings.
  1. Navigate to the "Markup" tab.
  2. Select the "Cloud line" tool from the drop-down menu.
  3. Draw around the modified areas to generate cloud-shaped outlines.
  4. Go to the "Sequence" toolbar.
  5. Enter the numerical revision value in the "Start" field. Any letters or text added in the "Prefix" or "Suffix" fields will be displayed alongside the revision number in the drawing.
  6. Select "Triangle" under the Border Shape options, and a triangle linked to the revision number will appear.
  7. Choose the desired Lead Line Style and click "Start" to add the revision triangle.
